This session will provide insights on preparing your board profile online and identifying your unique value proposition for boards (with examples on how to get noticed!) and board interview tips (to succeed once you're shortlisted!). We will bring industry experts to you for the most current information in a conversational format: Lisa Porlier of Russell Reynolds Associates and Susan Varty of Women Get On Board and HeadStart Copywriting.

Lisa Porlier

Managing Director, Russell Reynolds Associates

Lisa Porlier leads the Technology Sector in Canada and serves as the Deputy Country Manager. Lisa joined Russell Reynolds Associates in 2004 from the University of Toronto where she was the Executive Director of the Capital Markets Institute, a policy institute focused on providing rigorous research guidance to policy makers on the competitiveness of the Canadian Capital markets.Previously, Lisa worked in investment banking with Scotia Capital Inc., for nine years. As a director and relationship manager, she led the firm's technology practice, working in mergers and acquisitions, public and private financings and corporate finance advisory.Lisa is past President of Women in Capital Markets, and Chair of the Heather L. Main Memorial Scholarship, where she has played an instrumental role in developing and implementing internship programs for women graduates of business schools.Lisa received her B.B.A. (with honors) from Wilfrid Laurier University and her M.B.A. from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. She is a CFA® charterholder.

Susan Varty

Managing Partner, HeadStart Copywriting

Susan Varty is known for her go-to-market and digital strategies to help people get ahead in their careers or win business. A corporate writer who specializes in transitioning thought-leadership to online channels, Susan's background includes technical expertise in enterprise IT and operations, as well as recruitment and career advancement.Susan is a co-founder and COO at Women Get On Board, a member-based company that connects, promotes and empowers women to corporate boards and Managing Partner of HeadStart Copywriting.Susan has built strategic digital products and services for many corporations including Deloitte, RBC, KPMG, Workopolis and Global Payments. She is a guest writer for The Globe and Mail and is sought-after for her talks on Personal Branding - speaking at Women in Payments, Women in Capital Markets, Seneca College, and the Digital Strategy Summit in New York. Susan is also a singer with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
