WCM Calgary: Virtual Networking Session

WCM Calgary Steering Committee and the University of Calgary present: Virtual Speed Networking 

Join WCM's Calgary University Committee for a virtual networking session to hear from Calgary based capital markets professionals about what a day in their job really looks like. Over the course of the event, each student will be placed into 3 breakout rooms. The speakers will provide an overview of their industry, speak about their role and experiences, and answer any questions you may have. Students will be assigned into their preferred rooms on a first-come basis. Note that we can’t guarantee you will get the room requested as the event approaches, so please sign up earlier to gain access to your preferred professionals.

*This event is designed for students enrolled in graduate or undergraduate programs who are interested in pursuing a career in finance and is free to attend.

Christina Carnovale

Director of Foreign Exchange Sales in the Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities | RBC Capital Markets

Christina Carnovale is a Director of Foreign Exchange Sales in the Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities group with RBC Capital Markets, based in Calgary, Alberta. Christina has more than 14 years of experience with RBC, specializing in FX advice and execution for Energy clients across North America. Prior to joining RBC, Christina spent 7 years with Enbridge Inc., with roles in Corporate Finance, Risk Management and Treasury. Christina holds a Masters of Economics from the University of Calgary. Christina is also the Co-chair of the Calgary Chapter of Women in Capital Markets (WCM) and the Co-Chair of RWomen Calgary, an Employee Resource Group focused on promoting diversity and inclusion at RBC Capital Markets.

Hannah Smerek

Director, Commodity Derivatives | National Bank

Hannah Smerek is a Director in National Bank’s Commodity Derivatives group where she covers a book of energy clients. Through her position, Hannah has extensive experience working directly with C-Suite executives, building and executing on strategic solutions for managing their commodity price risks. Hannah has a Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science with First Class Honours from Imperial College London, UK. She graduated at the top of her class and was awarded the IOM3 Prize in Materials from the UK Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining for her strong academic performance. Hannah is passionate about the advancement of women in male-dominated fields and has been actively involved with Women in Capital Markets since 2017 and Co-Chair of the Calgary Chapter since 2019.

Nishka Gupta

Vice President | ARC Financial Corp

Nishka Gupta is a Vice President at ARC Financial Corp., Canada’s largest energy focused private equity firm. Nishka’s responsibilities include deal evaluation, structuring and execution as well as portfolio management. Nishka represents ARC as observer or director on the boards ARC portfolio companies and works with them on company corporate strategy, risk management and financial matters. Nishka is a Professional Engineer and has prior experience as a field operations engineer at a major multinational energy company. Nishka has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the Ivey Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Western University. 

Beth Pollock

VP & Treasurer | Gibson Energy

Beth joined Gibson Energy in 2015 and is currently the VP & Treasurer. In this role she has oversight of bank and capital markets financing activities, counterparty credit, cash management, insurance, account receivable and payable. She also leads operational accounting. Prior to joining Gibsons, Beth had over ten years of experience in investment banking, corporate banking, and consulting for energy sector clients, most recently as a VP in Investment Banking and Corporate Banking with RBC Capital Markets in Calgary. Beth graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Economics degree from Queens University and an MBA degree from the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business.

Jenica Kostynuik

Associate, Energy Corporate Banking | RBC

Jenica Kostynuik is an Associate in RBC's Energy Corporate Banking group in Calgary. Jenica has been with the team for the past 4 years, and covers midstream, power, utilities, and oil and gas clients. Prior to joining RBC, Jenica worked at TC Energy Corp. Jenica holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary and is a CFA charterholder.

Isabel Boisvert

Senior Financial Accountant | ARC Financial Corp

Isabel Boisvert is a Senior Financial Accountant at ARC Financial Corp., Canada’s largest energy focused private equity firm. Isabel manages the corporate reporting, including the annual budgeting process, corporate taxes, shareholder transactions and quarterly updates to the board and shareholders. Isabel is a Certified Management Accountant and received her Bachelor of Business Administration from SAIT. Isabel volunteers her time on the board of directors of her community association. When she isn’t busy working or running after her toddler, Isabel enjoys spending time in the mountains hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
