Sophia Tsui

Chief Risk Officer

Sophia was appointed as Chief Risk Officer for HSBC Bank Canada in March 2021. She was previously the Senior Vice President and Chief Auditor from 2016 to 2021 and prior to that, the Global Head of Risk Governance and Risk Appetite based in London.  Sophia joined HSBC in 1994, and her 27 year career with the Bank has spanned various areas: 5 years in Commercial Banking, 17 years in Risk Management and 5 years in Internal Audit. Sophia is a risk and internal control professional with extensive experience in global financial services.  She enjoys leading new practices and championing a culture of innovation for risk management.  She is passionate about people development that inspires them to become stronger and more valuable contributors to the organization.

Sophia was named one of Women’s Executive Network (WXN’s) Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada in 2018.  In 2019, she was recognized as one of British Columbia’s Most Influential Women in Finance by BC Business Magazine. She is also an Executive Sponsor for HSBC Employee Resource Groups, and mentors both internally and externally in industry. 
Sophia is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University.  She has also completed a number of executive management courses through Duke University, Stanford and London School of Business.
