Interested in a career in ESG? Gain insight into the world of sustainable investing, learn about the exciting and rewarding career opportunities available to you, and find out what area of ESG is right for you!

The evening will feature an overview of the sustainable investing sector, a panel discussion of senior professionals outlining their career path, discuss industry trends and opportunities in the field, and offer advice on how to succeed in the world of finance. The event is designed for diverse students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs who are curious about career opportunities in the finance industry.

Lara Zink

CEO, WCM

Lara Zink is currently President & CEO of Women in Capital Markets. Prior to joining WCM, Lara spent 18 months in venture capital. She is an angel investor and a mentor at a startup accelerator called NEXT Canada. NEXT accelerates the growth trajectory of aspiring and scaling entrepreneurs with education, mentorship, funding, and access to Canada’s strongest entrepreneurial network.  From 1995 to 2019 Lara worked at RBC Capital Markets. She sold North American and European equity research and investment banking products to many of Canada’s largest institutional investors, including pension funds, bank owned mutual funds, and independent fund managers. A lead partner in RBC Women’s Leadership ETF, she has been a strong advocate for ED&I throughout her career and has extensive volunteer experience for social impact.  Lara has been an active mentor to junior women and men throughout her career

Christopher Antony

Associate, Sustainable Finance Group

Christopher’s background spans roles in trading and research focused on fixed income, currencies, and preferred shares. Prior to joining RBC’s Sustainable Finance Group he worked in Investment Manager Research at a global wealth management firm after spending time on their FX trading desk. Christopher received his Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Social Justice & Peace Studies from Western University, is a CFA Charterholder, and is currently pursuing an MBA at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Susan Golyak, MBA

Senior Manager, ESG British Columbia Investment Management Corporation

A responsible investing professional with 20 years’ experience in the institutional investment industry, Susan joined the public markets team at BCI in 2016. BCI’s public markets program manages a global portfolio of fixed income and public equity investments representing $112.8 billion in assets under management. ESG is an essential part of BCI’s investment beliefs and Susan’s responsibilities include engagement with corporate issuers, regulators, and external investment managers on ESG risks, proxy voting, and conducting ESG analysis and integration. Prior to joining BCI, Susan was a responsible investing analyst at The Ontario Public Service Employees Union Pension Trust. She holds an MBA from the University of Fredericton’s Sandermoen School of Business, focusing on Social Enterprise Leadership. 

Laura Song

Analyst, Sustainable Investing and Innovation, OPTrust

Laura Song is an Analyst in the Sustainable Investing and Innovation group at OPTrust, one of Canada’s largest defined benefit pension plans. Laura’s team is responsible for leading the organization’s Responsible Investing program, encompassing ESG integration, climate strategy, active ownership and stakeholder engagement. She holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and is a CFA Level III candidate.

Baris Ozyetis

AVP, SRI Solutions, Mackenzie Investments

Baris is responsible for the development and management of Mackenzie’s growing and robust shelf of sustainable solutions focused on thematic and impact mutual funds and ETFs. In his role, Baris regularly liaises with a wide range of stakeholders to bring to market ideas that will resonate with Canadian investors and promotes the performance plus impact proposition of Mackenzie’s sustainable solutions. He joined Mackenzie Investments in 2016 to lead the inside sales teams in Ontario and the Atlantic provinces.  
Baris is an advocate for several causes across Mackenzie. From 2018-2020, he was co-chair and a key member of Mackenzie’s Green Committee, a committee focused on raising awareness and action for the environment. In 2020, he became a member of Mackenzie’s Partners-in-Action Committee focused on promoting gender diversity. In 2021, he was named co-chair of this committee.
 
Baris has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and holds an Honours BA from the University of Toronto, majoring in Economics.

Klazina van den Berg

Senior Associate, ESG Research, Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets

Klazina van den Berg joined Scotiabank GBM in February 2016, and currently serves as a Senior Associate of ESG Equity Research. Scotiabank launched ESG investment research in 2018, and was the first Canadian sell-side firm to provide comprehensive thematic and analytical ESG analysis in Canada. Previously, she was focused on the Oil and Gas sector, both at Scotiabank and another investment dealer. Her work with top-ranked teams has provided her with considerable exposure to a diverse set of companies and investors. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.
