Applying to business school? Find out what it's all about from a University Student Mentor!

The WCM Student Buddy Program pairs female high school mentees with a female university student mentor who will help them explore career and education options as well as prepare them for post-secondary studies. The university mentor will guide their mentee through the program sessions covering a series of relevant topics including preparing for university, learning about capital markets industry and developing skills for success. Students will participate in the program through four bi-weekly telephone sessions from January-March 2019.

Key Dates

November 1st, 2018 - Applications open for Mentor & Mentees
November 30th, 2018 - Applications due for Mentor & Mentees
December 17th, 2018 - Mentors & Mentees are notified of pairings
January 20th, 2019 - Kick-Off Event
March 28th, 2019: Closing event, Program Conclusion

Session 3: Skills for success and leadership essentials
Session 4: Preparing for the university experience
Finale: Closing the relationship and feedback

Criteria for Mentors

  • Enrollment in a commerce program (3rd or 4th year) at an accredited Canadian university 

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and keen interest in giving back to the community 

  • Outstanding record in academics and extracurricular achievements

  • Commitment to being available for bi-weekly meetings 

  • Prior attendance at a minimum of one UniConnect event or prior internship in capital markets 

  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a background check financed by WCM

  • Keen interest in pursuing a university degree in business and curious about capital markets
  • Strong record of academic and extracurricular achievements
  • Commitment to being available for a bi-weekly meetings
