Position Description

The opportunity

The Senior Manager is responsible for managing the operations of OTPP’s external fund investments. This role is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of external fund operations including trade and asset servicing, performance capture, investment accounting, fee oversight & reporting. The Senior Manager is also responsible for managing relationships with Investments, other internal partners, and several key service providers.

Who you'll work with

As a member of the Private Asset Operations in Finance Operations, you will work with the Funds team, the Private Directs team and the Transaction Management team which is responsible for coordinating private deal execution.

What you'll do

  • Oversee OTPP’s fund investing operations

  • Manage a team responsible for fund performance measurement and all fund capital transactions.

  • Take care of complex issues impacting settlements, performance measurement, fee insight or financial reporting

  • Develop & maintain an appropriate framework of financial and operational controls

  • Hire, manage, and develop talent within the team

  • Drive projects impacting the strategic insight given to our investment teams on areas such as fund fees, investment performance and portfolio construction

  • Initiate and manage initiatives to automate and improve internal processes

  • Build and maintain relationships with key contacts in the Investment Department, other internal partners, and external suppliers, counterparties, and peers

  • Work with other Finance departments to ensure efficient co-ordination of daily and month end work as well as special project work.

  • Monitor the service provided by suppliers and take steps to ensure excellent service is received including supporting the sourcing and implementation of new relationships.

  • Remain current with new and emerging industry operational standard processes

  • Contribute to strategic decisions on how the group should operate or improve

  • Report monthly on key operational metrics

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to team

  • Mentor direct reports and help them strive to make their department more efficient, effective, and service-oriented

  • Evaluate members of the team(s) to ensure they have the appropriate skills and capabilities to succeed in their responsibilities

  • Build and maintain good working relationships with all key stakeholders across OTPP

  • Drive employee efficiency by harnessing new systems, designing, and implementing operational improvements, and developing productivity measures and monitoring results

  • Ensure vendor service delivery quality through monitoring results and constructive dialogue

  • Promote cross operational group understanding of processes, controls, and required results

  • Lead the prioritization of operational system enhancements to increase efficiency or enhance strategic support

  • Stay current with industry standard methodologies and maintain a strong network of peers

  • Strong decision-making skills are essential to this role.

  • Make operational decisions on a day-to-day basis – balancing daily time pressures and ensuring high grade results.

  • Possess sound risk identification skills, ability to balance risks with business needs and requirement to make timely decisions with imperfect information.

Required Skill / Experience

What you'll n​eed

  • Relevant university degree
  • CPA (CA), CFA, CAIA, or MBA
  • Technical knowledge of a wide range of investment products, especially private funds and hedge funds
  • Tech-savvy with a proven track record for digitizing or automating operational processes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required as this position deals with both internal and external contacts
  • 8+ years of related professional experience
  • Experience leading and managing people.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Successful track record in project planning and management.
