Position Description

The opportunity

Manulife Investment Management is the Global Wealth and Asset Management (GWAM) segment of Manulife Financial Corporation. We draw on more than a century of financial stewardship and the full resources of our parent company to serve individuals, institutions, and retirement plan members worldwide.

Global Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is a dynamic team of high-energy professionals who function as trusted partners and advisors to the CFO of Global WAM, the Heads of Finance of the WAM business divisions, and other finance counterparts. The team is focused on the following key activities:

  • Producing thoughtful, relevant global management reporting materials for business units, Group Finance, Investor Relations, the Board of Directors and external stakeholders
  • Provision of relevant information related to external reporting for WAM
  • Upgrading and centralizing the delivery model, and driving operational improvements
  • Operating a Planning and Reporting Centre of Expertise (CoE), including thought leadership and the production of planning figures
  • Liaising with Transformation and Accounting and Reporting teams

Key responsibilities:

The Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis will focus on the following key activities:

  • Acquire deep institutional knowledge of the US Retail (JHIM/Personal Investing) business and its financials
  • Review, support, and maintain financial models to support the evolving needs of the business
  • Play a lead role in the financial analysis and annual planning for the business, including investigation of trends, model projections, sensitivities, key metrics (e.g. earnings, flows, AUM), preparation of presentation decks, and ad hoc requests as required
  • Support the monthly forecasts process including analyzing and explaining the variance to Plan and Prior Year
  • Prepare high-quality monthly and quarterly reports, dashboards and presentations
  • Leverage in-depth Anaplan/ Essbase / Smart View knowledge to efficiently produce financial planning and reporting
  • Leverage institutional and industry knowledge to provide research and financial analysis resulting in value-add insights and recommendations to the US Retail CFO. This includes assisting with the development of new reports, metrics, and analysis that will support senior executives by enabling them to make informed decisions on a timely basis.
  • Produce thoughtful, relevant management reporting materials and analytical support for the Retail business
  • Develop strong relationships with business partners and stakeholders

  • Actively involved with consolidating, analyzing, and synthesizing large amounts of complex financial and non-financial information from numerous suppliers.
  • Demonstrating strong attention to detail, focusing on financial integrity, consolidation, alignment, and consistency in the “look and feel” of deliverables
  • Initiating ongoing improvements by exploring, identifying, and implementing reporting, analysis, and process solutions.

Required Skill / Experience

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
  • Typically, 3 to 4 years of experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Diligent, well-organized, and excellent analytical skills
  • Self-starter and great teammate with a high level of initiative, strong work ethic and the ability to gather, synthesize, organize and report information
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvements and a positive, “can-do” attitude
  • Experience with writing, analysis and storytelling for effective deck production
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications; Essbase/Anaplan expertise would be an asset
