Position Description
The Total Fund Investments Team is looking for a Senior Advisor, specialized in econometrics, to join the Chief Investment Office (CIO) group in Montreal. This is a key position inside the Economic Analysis and Financial Markets Modelling team, whose mandate is notably to produce economic scenarios, assess the impacts of the scenarios on different asset classes, and support the economic presentations to upper management. These activities are pivotal in the CIO group for the decision-making processes related notably to the medium-term asset and currency allocation.
More specifically, the candidate will have to:
Carefully monitor and analyse the global financial markets and economic conditions. Participate in the development of economic and financial scenarios. Collaborate in the development and updating of the in-house econometrics model designed to estimate the expected return of the financial variables related to asset allocation and currencies activities, such as interest rates, equity and private indices, commodity prices and currencies. Run autonomously the in-house econometrics model, provide a critical and strategic interpretation of the results, and ensure a clear communication in relation to the economic scenario. Work closely with other CIO team members and have an influence amongst the group while ensuring transfer knowledge within the team. Perform all other duties as required by the position.
Required Skill / Experience
Strong knowledge in macroeconomics, econometrics, financial markets, and financial market modeling
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong programming skills in more than one language (Eviews, MATLAB, Python, R, Excel, etc), and experience with Microsoft Office and relevant investment databases (Bloomberg, Datastream, etc.).
A good ability to build relationships, to establish credibility, and to work with people in different fields
Intellectual curiosity, willingness to learn, creativity, and openness to new ideas
An interest in working for a growing organization
Proactive, hardworking, result oriented and a recognized work ethic
Master’s or Ph.D. in economics/econometrics or a related field (actuarial, mathematics, statistics, finance)
5 to 10 years of experience in econometric modeling applied to investment processes
Experience in asset allocation investment and currency hedging strategy, an asset
Fluency in English
Previous experience in a pension fund or similar institutions, an asset
CFA charter holder, an asset
