The Total Fund Management (TFM) department, part of the Investments division, is responsible for setting the investment plan for the total fund which involves portfolio construction of the asset mix, setting of the active risk budgets, and managing the balance sheet.
Portfolio Strategy, a subgroup within TFM, is responsible for various functions including strategic asset allocation, tactical tilts, and integration of private investment activities with the total fund mandate. The Portfolio Strategy group will gain insights into the fund’s risk and return characteristics and also work within Investments to innovate and explore new investment opportunities from a strategic perspective.
Who you'll work with
In a diverse team, you will work closely with other members of TFM in order to conduct research that supports the investment activities of the total fund.
Within Portfolio Strategy, you will join a team of twelve and be reporting to the Director, Strategic Asset Allocation.
What you'll do
As an Investment Analyst, you will play an important supporting role in helping make total fund investment recommendations to the CIO and the Total Fund Investment Committee based on meticulous research and analysis. A keen interest in financial markets and staying current with the market are crucial in this role in addition to the required technical skills.
- Assist with daily portfolio management and monitoring of the total fund
- Proactively anticipate requests and take initiative to get work done
- Navigate and make use of internal resources
- Collaborate on projects with colleagues throughout the organization
- Operate within risk limits, portfolio policies, and Teachers’ policies
- Keep up to date with the market and the risks of the total fund
- Assist with formulating and articulating the fund’s investment strategy
- Help build presentations to communicate investment recommendations to senior management
- Stay abreast of state-of-the-art research in asset allocation, risk management, and portfolio construction
- Develop models related to econometrics, time series analysis, valuation, or optimization

Required Skill / Experience
- Undergraduate Degree (preferably graduate) in a Finance field with some quantitative accuracy
- Proficiency in Python, including the ability to maintain existing codebase as well as the ability to build new scripts and applications.
- Proficiency in Excel/VBA
- Completed or working towards CFA designation
- Sophisticated finance and investment knowledge
- Strong communication skills with ability to write and present investment ideas effectively
- Proven understanding of financial instruments (e.g. options, futures, swaps, etc.) and their mechanics
- Prior experience building investment models and conducting quantitative analysis (e.g. advanced statistical methods, econometrics, time series analysis, GARCH, etc.) an asset
- You must be graduating from your program no later than Spring 2023
