Position Description

The opportunity

The Manager, Sustainability Reporting & Analytics will be responsible for supporting and contributing to various mandates and projects, including sustainability reporting. This role will serve as a direct resource to the Senior Manager, Sustainability Reporting & Analytics and will provide insights and expertise in relation to current and future sustainability measurements and reporting across OTPP.

The sustainability related information is used for regulatory reporting, as well as in management reporting used by the Investment Division and Total Fund Management to inform investment and strategic decisions.

Who you'll work with

You will support and contribute to various projects and mandates within the Sustainability Reporting & Analytics group and will regularly interact with partners and team members across OTPP, including Investments, Finance, Risk and IT.

What you'll do

  • Analyze emerging sustainability reporting standards to determine impact on OTPP’s sustainability reporting requirements.
  • Collect, prioritize and analyze detailed information and data sets needed for sustainability related measurements and disclosure.
  • Contribute to advocacy and thought leadership efforts related to sustainability reporting within and beyond OTPP.
  • Prepare analysis and calculations related to OTPP’s Portfolio Carbon Footprint and comparison to targets, including interaction with external auditors.
  • Support and contribute to OTPP’s Green Bond reporting, including working with external auditors and internal cross-functional partners.
  • Prepare high quality qualitative and quantitative analysis to drive substantial insights in relation to sustainability reporting and associated metrics, where required.

Reporting

  • Support the preparation of sustainability related analysis (including the Portfolio Carbon Footprint (PCF), Green Bond report metrics, and other sustainability reporting and disclosure), including measuring the foregoing against established targets, where relevant.
  • Support and contribute to the calculation and analysis of the PCF related to private and public investments.
  • Support and contribute to the automation of sustainability related calculations and management reporting and explore ability to drive deeper analytics (e.g. predictive analytics, sensitivity analyses) and insights, as well as continue deployment of self-service tools such as PowerBI.
  • Review and analyze emerging reporting regulations and their impact on sustainability reporting measures and disclosures (e.g. ISSB Sustainability and Climate reporting/disclosure standards).
  • Alongside the Senior Manager, work with SI and contribute to OTPP’s Annual Reporting and Green Bond reports.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key partners including SI (Total Fund Management) and Investment departments to ensure in-depth understanding of their sustainability measurement and reporting needs.
  • Stay apprised of current and emerging sustainability measurement, reporting and disclosure practices and incorporate new methodologies and relevant regulatory requirements into current reporting practices.
Technology
  • Support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the automated Portfolio Carbon Footprint tool going forward.
  • In partnership with SI and Enterprise Operations (EOD - IT) work to maintain the PCF tool and where needed, enhance PCF measures, analytics and reporting.

Management accountability

  • This role will not have any direct reports.

Decision making

  • Proactively provide input on the group’s mandate, team composition and skills, and recommend changes as needed.
  • Provide input and insights in relation to developing critical initiatives for the Sustainability Reporting and Analytics group

Required Skill / Experience

  • Approximately 3-6 years of related professional experience in financial reporting, sustainability reporting, and/or investment valuation.
  • University Degree
  • Professional designation CPA, CBV, CFA or MBA
  • Working knowledge of GHG accounting frameworks and GHG protocol preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and PowerBI preferred.
  • Solid understanding of private investment valuations desirable.
  • Knowledge of Factset and/or S&P Trucost platforms/tools desirable.
  • Working knowledge of public market securities (including derivatives, credit, public equities) desirable.
  • Experience in sustainability reporting and/or valuation preferred.
  • Experience working within a pension, investment fund, or financial services firm preferred.
  • Experience in developing and building PowerBI tools and/or dashboards.
  • Experience in a financial reporting and/or external audit function preferred.
  • Experience preparing management reporting and analytics.
  • Experience organizing, analyzing and working with large data sets.
  • Extensive use of MS Office products
