Who you’ll work with
Ontario Teachers' is Canada's largest single-profession pension plan with $247.2 billion in net assets. We pay pensions and invest plan assets on behalf of 329,000 working and retired teachers. Total Fund Management (TFM) department, part of the Investments Division, is responsible for portfolio construction of the total fund, setting the appropriate asset/active risk budgets and the desired asset mix as well as managing the balance sheet of the plan. TFM will also work within Investments to innovate and explore new investment opportunities from a strategic perspective.
Portfolio Analytics & Modelling (PAM), a sub-group under TFM, provides TFM the analytical capabilities to support robust strategic asset allocation, to gain insights into the fund’s return & risk characteristics and relevant market drivers, and to create analytical tools to support investment analysis with in-house software development including optimization (constrained and unconstrained), quantitative market surveillance, and scenario analysis. Portfolio Analytics is also responsible for modelling the public and private assets and associated simulation tools for portfolio construction and risk analysis purposes.
You will be part of the Portfolio Analytics & Modelling Group within TFM and be reporting to the Sr. Principal, Portfolio Analytics. Primarily, you work within PAM but occasionally you may work with other teams, Portfolio Strategy Team, Economics & Research Team and Treasury Team, in TFM as well.
What you’ll do
- Implement in C# the analytical tools that estimates the risk impact of the Fund
- Enhance and maintain the Balance Sheet Tool to better serve Investment Planning purpose
- Manage back end database which are used by front end analytic tools and modelling
- Research and implement tools (Matlab, Excel, C#) related to risk and portfolio analysis
- Update the Asset Scenario Generator in Matlab to reflect the modelling improvements made by the team
- Enhance and maintain Asset Scenario Analysis Tool (ASAT)
- Develop and maintain ASAT website, a visual tool for user to access the stress analysis
- Work on cross team projects, e.g. inflation working group
- Testing and documentation of analytical tools
- Improve existing analytical implementation by applying the latest coding standards

Required Skill / Experience
What you’ll need
- University education, preferably with a post-graduate degree in Quantitative Finance, Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics
- Relevant working experience (intern / coop) from large banks and asset management firms
- Strong quantitative analysis skill and be able to apply academic theory to solve real world problems
- Understanding portfolio construction / asset allocation theory, risk adjusted returns, and factor investing
- Strong programming skills, preferably in C#, Python, and Matlab
- Website development experience is a plus
- Advanced excel skills, familiar with complex charts, graphs, formulae, and VBA coding
- Know how to write advanced SQL query and database concepts
- Highly self-motivated, keen attention to detail, good communication skills and team player
- You must be graduating from your program before May 2024
