Position Description

As ESS continues to develop new competencies and evolve to a world class Finance organization, this role will support the simplification and standardization of policies and enhanced controls across the organization. It will also support transformation of the service delivery model, ensuring internal ESS team members are demonstrating internal practices consistently while socializing the service catalog with external collaborators to ensure roles and deliverables are defined and aligned. The incumbent will serve as a single-point-of-contact for all questions related to policies and procedures related to monthly close, standard variance analysis, reporting, forecasting, and planning. Moreover, the incumbent will have the full support of their manager, AVP, Finance Transformation, ensuring the right priorities are in place to keep the ESS team adequately informed.

The position may also take on business-as-usual Expense Shared Service responsibilities that include NAIC reporting, Allocations (Expense Study and Strategic Pool), and controls related to ledger maintenance (accounts, cost centers, etc).

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply experience, industry best practices, and internal/external feedback to find opportunities to develop a global standardized approach that is simple and supportable for financial reporting purposes.
  • Document, maintain, and provide governance on expense guidance, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure policies and procedures adhere to relevant accounting and regulatory standards.
  • Build and maintain a framework to document the service catalog provided by the ESSC team.
  • Partner with ESS teams to document, socialize, and agree upon Service Level Agreements with various stakeholders.
  • Conduct customer service surveys to gather feedback and suggest areas for improvement.
  • Actively leverage change management tools and processes to ensure strong communication of the workstream objectives and timeline to ESS team members and customers.
  • Provide support for leadership townhalls and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Partner closely with ESS MBPS team members to ensure support and alignment throughout development of plans and delivery of outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate journal entries for compliance with company guidelines.
  • Conduct risk assessments on key processes related to month-end close and reporting to mitigate dependencies.
  • Act as the primary contact during internal and external audits.
  • Lead the Business Continuity Plan and document retention process.
  • Manage the coordination of collaboration and document storage tools currently used by the expense team, including SharePoint, MS Teams, LAN Folders, etc.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the overall expense process, contributes to maintaining a robust governance framework within the expense team.
  • Partner with the Finance Transformation program to ensure appropriate controls are in place for new processes.
  • Build networks and relationships with internal and external partners to meet or exceed business objectives. Implement and monitor effective communication between Expense teams globally and finance/business partners.
  • Facilitate training sessions for the expense team, focusing on key processes, initiatives, and reporting to enhance awareness and knowledge.
  • Cultivate an innovative environment by supporting creativity and high-performance teamwork.
  • Actively participate in resource and succession planning activities.

Required Skill / Experience

What we are looking for

  • Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) with 10+ years of relevant experience in progressive accounting roles.
  • University degree in business, finance or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, negotiate and influence effectively.
  • Excellent written skills with ability to chart and document processes used for controls and training purposes.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly in the area of using sound, independent judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Results oriented, able to manage expectations, work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent customer focus and commitment to quality.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to communicate complex concepts and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner (written and verbal).
  • Solid analytical and technical capability - ability to assimilate/summarize a large amount of information from multiple sources and present in an improved form for senior management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new applications quickly
  • Lawson knowledge (or other complex GL package) would be an asset
