Position Description

The Corporate Development Associate will assist in the implementation of the corporate strategy and support development opportunities to grow Sagard’s business and reach. The candidate will have the opportunity to play a leading role in all phases of past and current development transactions including, screening and preliminary analysis of targets, structuring and valuation, due diligence, term sheet and definitive agreement negotiations, deal closing and integration planning. The candidate will have an active role in accompanying the team in the integration of investments and the implementation of strategic initiatives for the company.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the corporate development team in considering strategic options related to the development and growth of Sagard's platform

  • Provide expertise to identify deal prospects & targets, maintain a pipeline of strategic investment targets and manage multiple deals at a time;

  • Participate in aspects of deal processes and support the Corporate Development team through all stages of strategic transactions, including; identification of targets, analysis and valuation, due and post- investment planning;

  • Develop relationships and negotiate with external stakeholders, including target companies, investment bankers and M&A advisors;

  • Work closely with the legal team to document transaction agreements;

  • Review and maintain financial modeling for strategic alignment;

  • Financial modelling and analytical support for a variety of corporate development projects

  • Supporting the monitoring of investments in the Portage portfolio

  • Supporting the Value Creation Team and portfolio companies as-needed on special projects, specifically for M&A and business development-related activities

Required Skill / Experience

  • CPA, CFA, MBA or an asset

  • Five (5+) years of practical experience in mergers and acquisitions, FP&A or corporate development

  • Strong knowledge of Excel, financial analysis and dynamic modeling techniques;

  • Mastery of research and analysis techniques

  • Bilingualism essential: spoken and written (English - French)

  • Preferred experience in the financial services sector ideally in the alternative asset manager sector

  • Organized and strong attention to detail

  • Creative thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;

  • Autonomous and of impeccable integrity
