The Strategy & Portfolio Insight (S&PI) team is part of an Asset Class, Global Alpha, where its role within PSP is to provide access to alpha rich pockets of the market, shape returns through portfolio construction and positively impact PSP beyond performance through insight. The three main objectives of S&PI are:

1) Improve GA’s management and execution decisions through actionable, aggregated, and accessible information. This includes consolidating, digesting, and interpreting multiple internal and external streams of data with the objective of deriving investable insights 2) Drive Global Alpha’s Strategy by mobilizing resources and capital to ensure alignment between investment teams’ contributions & GA’s vision while representing GA in transversal and strategic PSP initiatives (i.e., ESG consideration in investment activities)

3) Enhance our collaborative efforts with internal business partners at PSP, such as the Market Risk, Policy Portfolio and Technology, Data & Operations teams representing Global Alpha’s objectives and needs.


As an Analyst or Senior Analyst in Strategy and Portfolio Insight, you’ll:

  • Participate in the efforts to enhance Global Alpha’s ability to assess and compare positioning, performance, and risk across internal/external strategies
  • Help draw actionable insight using in depth analysis based on Global Alpha’s positioning combined with market knowledge and various data sources
  • Participate in the development of analytical tools for Global Alpha’s investment team to improve decision making focusing on understanding skills with the intent to make them repeatable and measurable
  • Help provide guided analysis to portfolio managers and decision makers related to various consideration in the investment process.
  • Be a key developer of other technical solutions offered to the investment team
  • Contribute to preparing documentation and other internal presentations
  • Help provide market and portfolio insights through data analysis

Required Skill / Experience

  • Master's degree in relevant field (Finance, Financial Engineering, Econometrics, or related field)

  • Academic knowledge of financial products and derivatives pricing

  • Highly proficient in SQL, Python, VBA and Snowflake as well as versioning tools like Git

  • Knowledge of market information’s sources (i.e. Bloomberg, Compustat, Capital IQ), an asset

  • Strong financial intuition and thorough understanding of markets and investing opportunities

  • Demonstrated initiative and curiosity to look beyond surface facts and conduct comprehensive and value-added research

  • Attention to details and rigorous approach to research, analysis and documentation

  • Creative, innovative, open-minded and team player

  • Accountability and results-driven

  • Bilingualism: English and French (frequent interactions in English with PSP employees based in our offices in Hong Kong, London and New York, and interactions in French with employees in our local offices in Montreal and Ottawa)
