Join WCM Vancouver and our distinguished panelists Maria Pacella, Tracey McVicar and Emily Davies along with our moderator Mal Karwowska for an informative event and thought-provoking discussion on how to get your foot in the door on some of the most exciting hubs in Finance: Private Equity, Investment Banking, and Equity Research. These powerful women will share their journey and provide you with insights and inspiration to pursue your own professional paths.

Maria Pacella

Senior VP, Private Equity and Portfolio Manager

Maria has been investing in emerging growth companies, with a focus on technology businesses since 2001. She spent 11 years with one of Canada’s largest venture capital firms where she invested in multiple early stage ventures and served on a variety of boards, mostly in the areas of enterprise software, ecommerce and medtech. Prior to that, she worked at a digital media firm assisting the company in operational activities and strategic initiatives. She also worked in financial and technology M&A for the Canadian subsidiary of an international investment firm.
Maria’s experience includes operational roles at early stage companies, serving on boards, facilitating M&As and leading financings. She has built an extensive technology network across North America, notably in Silicon Valley, and has been a member of C100. She is currently a director on the board of GreenSpace Brands Inc., Clarius Mobile Health,  and BasicGov and an observer on the boards of Tantalus Systems and Microdermics Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, is a CFA charterholder and an active member and a past president of CFA Society Vancouver.

Tracey McVicar, CFA, ICD.D

CAI Capital Partners Managing Partner

Tracey McVicar is a Managing Partner at CAI Capital Management, a private equity firm she joined in 2003. Prior to this role, she held a number of senior positions in investment banking, including Senior Vice President at Raymond James and Vice President at RBC Capital Markets. Ms. McVicar is a director of Teck Resources and past director of BC Hydro.  She is a graduate of University of British Columbia (BCom, Finance), CFA Institute (Chartered Financial Analyst), and Institute of Corporate Directors (Institute Certified Director).

Emily Davies

Associate Partner of Linde Equity

Emily performs research and analysis of Canadian and US listed securities and assists in managing the Linde Equity Fund. She is responsible for monitoring the firm’s investments, supporting its risk management objectives, and overseeing business development activities. Prior to joining Linde Equity, Emily worked in equity research and investment banking at RBC Capital Markets focusing on mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and equity and debt financings in the forestry, mining and diversified sectors.

Mal Karwowska

Finance Professional - Mining & Metals

Mal Karwowska has 10 years of experience in finance specific to the mining sector, most recently as an Investment Manager at Pacific Road Capital in Vancouver.  Her previous roles included Business Development Director at Oxygen Capital Corp., Senior Investment Research Analyst at Liberty Metals & Mining Holdings, LLC in Boston as well as over five years at National Bank Financial in the investment banking group in Vancouver. Mal holds a BCom from the Sauder School of Business at UBC.
