WCM | The Virtual Hustle

By WCM | January 29, 2021

Happy 2021 WCM community! We are looking forward to continuing our work to accelerate equity in the finance industry, building stronger partnerships and continuing to celebrate the achievements of our sponsors, partners, and members. In the spirit of celebration, this is our first Hustle of the year!

Emerging Leaders - Continuing their professional development programming, our 2020-2021 cohort of Emerging Leaders gathered for one of their Group Coaching sessions. This session focused on the power of listening and being heard. Participants received training from our learning development partner Felix Global and left the session equipped with information on different styles of listeners and how to best approach each one.

Professional Mentorship Kick-Off - WCM marked Mentorship Month by kicking off our premiere and industry-leading mentorship program. Over 180 participants attended WCM’s 2021 Mentorship Program Kick-Off Event where they received an exciting overview of what's to come in the program including Facet5 assessments and focused skill-building sessions for protégées.

WCMElevate: Negotiations - WCMElevate is all about taking participants' careers to the next level. With our January 27th session on Negotiations, participants had the chance to practice and hone their negotiation skills through a fun but instructional exercise in a session led by Ann Frost, Associate Professor, Organizational Behaviour at Ivey Business School. Ann also advised participants on how to effectively negotiate in a variety of situations.

CEO Announcement - This week we announced WCM’s new President and CEO, Lara Zink. Lara has been a strong advocate for EDI throughout her career and has extensive volunteer experience for social impact. Lara takes the helm on Monday and we're excited for this next chapter of WCM. Thank you to Nathalie Clark, Mary Vitug and Suzi-Chang Parkinson for steering WCM's board through this integral decision.

University Mentorship Kick-Off - WCM's student programming kicked off this year with the launch of the 2021 Student Mentorship Program. Over 150 students and mentors joined the event and had the opportunity to hear more about this year's new and improved program and also WCM's upcoming events for student members.

The Globe and Mail's Power Gap Reporting - For two-and-a-half years Robyn Doolittle and data journalist Chen Wang looked into the wage gap in Canada. Through their research, they discovered that the issue goes beyond wage and becomes about power. As part of the article, WCM's research from July 2020 on Work and Well-being through Covid-19 is highlighted.
