WCM | The Virtual Hustle

By WCM | February 26, 2021

It's the end of another month! We, along with our partners and network, have been hard at work on the mission to accelerate equity in the finance industry and creating equitable workplaces for everyone. Here are the highlights of what's been happening behind the scenes:

University of Toronto (Mississauga) Women in Business Conference - WCM's CEO Lara Zink joined fellow women leaders at the University of Toronto (Mississauga)'s Women in Business Conference on February 12th. The conference celebrated “Women Leaders'' from various industries and gave advice to students on leadership while navigating the uncertainties caused by Covid-19.  As a panellist, Lara had the pleasure of sharing her experiences on effective leadership as part of a very successful event.

Emerging Leaders: Communicating with Executives - Our 2020/2021 Emerging Leaders cohort continues to benefit from the robust skill-building sessions the program offers. Participants enjoyed an engaging session presented by Felix Global's Susan Richardson that covered the key elements of successful corporate communication and specifically how to communicate and present to high-level executives.

WCM Professional Mentorship: Facet5 Debrief  -  Protégées in WCM’s Professional Mentorship program participated in a group debrief of the Facet5 assessment. One of the benefits of WCM's mentorship program is the opportunity to take the Facet5 assessment. Facet5 is a leading personality assessment for professionals that helps individuals understand their strengths and areas that may present challenges. The group had an engaging conversation about their personal results and how they plan to put this knowledge into action.

Executive Leaders: Kick Off Event - WCM's 2021 Executive Leaders award winners gathered to kick off the program. The group took time to (virtually) meet one another, get a full overview of the program, and hear from two past Award Recipients about their experience and what current winners can look forward to. Congratulations one again to the Executive Leaders Award winners:

  • Barbara Foy-Pilchner - Manulife Investments
  • Roanna Kim - RBC Capital Markets
  • Meric Koksal - CIBC Capital Markets
  • Mary Ann Mendes - BMO Capital Markets
  • Sarah Thompson - RBC Capital Markets
  • Mathilda Yared - National Bank of Canada

Report on Business Changemakers Award - WCM's Chief Strategy Officer Katie Squires-Thompson was selected as one of the winners of the 2021 The Globe and Mail Report on Business Changemakers award. The list honours emerging leaders transforming business today, congratulations on this recognition Katie!
