Diversity. Inclusion. Equality. Change.

In corporate Canada today, only three per cent of TSX-listed companies have a female CEO and only 14 percent of board seats at TSX-listed firms are occupied by women. At this pace, we remain some 200 years from achieving parity. The risks of this reality are simply too great to be accepted.

We must accept that what we have done to date has not yielded the results we need. It is the time for a dramatic and purposeful shift in management styles, cultures and corporate transparency. WCM is committed to advancing women in the finance industry and increasing the number of women in senior leadership roles in the Canadian economy.

Our mission is to accelerate gender diversity across Canada's financial industry.

We do this by:

  • Building the Talent Pipeline of Women

    • Educating female students about the rewarding career opportunities in business and finance, and dispelling stereotypes through our High School Liaison, SheBiz and UniConnect programs;
    • Offering exceptional professional development opportunities to women through all stages of their careers, including mentorship, executive coaching and topic-specific skill-building;
    • Providing a platform for women to build strong professional networks on a local and national scale;
    • Ensuring talented professional women are retained through our Return to Bay Street Program;
    • Profiling senior women to increase access to for-profit board opportunities (see our Board-Ready Directory).
  • Sharing Knowledge and Advocating for Change

    • Building awareness of the current state of gender diversity and providing education on the latest leading research, tactics and programs that are driving gender diversity;
    • Actively engaging with the media to bring gender diversity issues to the forefront of public dialogue;
    • Working with governments and stakeholders to implement supportive policies;
    • Inspiring leaders and showcasing exceptional leadership through recognition awards;
    • Augmenting the perception of capital markets and finance and showcasing positive experiences and career paths.
  • Transforming Workplaces So They Support Everyone

    • Supporting our partners in championing change and thereby ensuring gender diversity is an internal priority;
    • Inspiring and equipping senior leaders with information to drive change internally;
    • Providing managers with educational tools and training to strengthen management styles;
    • Offering opportunities to firms and professionals at all career levels to drive change.

More About WCM (Women in Capital Markets)

We are the largest network of professional women in the Canadian financial sector and the voice of advocacy for women in our industry. Our 2,000 members are diverse professionals in all segments of capital markets and related financial services. We work with our partners, members and the broader public to promote initiatives that successfully increase the economic empowerment of women and move the dial on women’s representation and participation across Canada's finance industry.

Succeeding in our mission and effectively driving positive change in our industry requires a concerted effort from us all; firms, government, family members, professional men and women. There is great strength in numbers and progress lies in the collective actions of individuals. We invite you to join our movement to leave gender parity as a legacy to the next generation. Together, we can make gender inequality history.
